Medical Care for Children Partnership Foundation named "Non-Profit of the Year"

The non-profit organization was nominated by Cardinal Bank for the honor.

McLean, VA, July 12, 2010 -- The Greater McLean Chamber of Commerce named MCCP Foundation “Non-Profit of the Year”. The non-profit organization was nominated by Cardinal Bank for the honor.

The MCCP Foundation funds health care for the children of uninsured working families in Fairfax County. Despite being one of the wealthiest counties in the nation, there are many thousands of children in our community who don't have access to doctors and dentists when they need them. This is a critical problem. Good health is essential to school success, and for attaining the foundation for a successful life.

The children who qualify for MCCP Foundation assistance are the victims of a “perfect storm”: families who work hard but have trouble earning enough to make ends meet; the difficulty of finding and affording health insurance; and a weak economy forcing cuts in public services. But MCCP Foundation is an important part of the solution: MCCP Foundation is the “perfect un-storm”!

MCCP Foundation is a public/private partnership that leverages four important groups of partners to be a proven model of community problem-solving. Our four partners are: Fairfax County, which provides our social workers and part of our operating costs; Kaiser Permanente and a network of private doctors and dentists; our many volunteers who serve on our Board and committees; and our financial supporters – the individuals, corporations, civic groups, and foundations that make it all work.

The target population for MCCP is uninsured children from birth to age 18 who are not eligible for public programs, and who are in families with an income below 250% of poverty level. It is estimated that there are as many as 10,000 children in Fairfax County who might be eligible for MCCP. Children need to have their own doctors and dentists so that they receive regular well-child check-ups and immunizations, and so that their parents know who to call if their child is sick. Parents without access to pediatricians often end up in emergency rooms with their children. The children are usually sicker than they would be if they received more timely care, and emergency room visits are extremely expensive, with the cost borne by tax-payers. MCCP Foundation currently funds the care for about 2,000 children in Fairfax County per year. Since its inception, MCCP has served over 85,000 children.

MCCP Foundation is a proven model of a public/private partnership that works to solve an urgent community problem.
